Microsoft Build 2017 – 5 Things you should know

Missed Microsoft’s Build 2017? Don’t worry, here are 5 things you should know:

1. Windows 10 update (Fall Creators)

Next big Windows update with an emphasis on cross-device experiences. For example, you can start writing a document on Surface and finish it on your iPad.

2. Windows Story Remix

Think of this new App as a mix of photo/movie editing and machine learning (to analyze photos and videos).

3. New VR motion controllers

What makes them cool? Windows Mixed Reality VR controllers are not using external cameras or markers, so all the sensors are in the controller.

4. You can now test iOS apps in Windows

Using the latest version of the Xamarin Live Player you will be able to deploy, run, test and debug iOS apps directly from Windows (running Visual Studio).

5. Fluent Design

Microsoft’s new design direction.

In summary, Microsoft didn’t blow us away with any one device or feature, but they continue to make incremental improvements, and that’s ok. Incremental improvements gave us Windows 10, an operating system which is now on par with anything Apple can throw at them, and Fall Creators updates just moved that bar a little higher.
